Employees from across Bowman Ingredients’ UK headquarters and blending plant recently enjoyed a taste of life in the development kitchen.
The regular Open Kitchen events are designed to lift the lid on what it’s like to work in the New Product Development (NPD) team. The sessions provide a valuable insight into how coating systems and value-added food products are created for leading retailers and quick service restaurant chains.
The latest event was hosted by development technologists and home economists from the NPD team. It was attended by staff from various departments, including quality assurance managers and blending plant operatives.
The two-hour session featured an introductory presentation on key Bowman Ingredients customers and the role and responsibilities of the NPD team. This was followed by a tour of the development kitchen and technical centre, including the food processing pilot plant.
A live cooking demonstration in the development kitchen enabled staff to learn how a coating system is prepared and used to make a final food product. A tasting session then provided staff with the opportunity to sample a range of products, including the latest coating systems in development.
Bowman Ingredients Senior Development Technologist Debbie Robinson says: “Our Open Kitchen sessions are always popular and help to build team spirit across departments. They enable staff from different parts of the business to really understand how we work in the New Product Development team.”
