Gemma Brook, Customer Service Manager

Gemma Brook is another of our career success stories here at Bowman Ingredients, progressing rapidly through our Customer Services department, and capitalising on the opportunities her role has provided.

How long have you been part of the Bowman Ingredients team?

Since January 2019. I started as a temporary Customer Services Administrator, which was extended to a permanent contract in the April. Two years later I was offered the chance to move to Logistics, which I really enjoyed and was a good change up of roles and tasks. The following year I was promoted to Supply Chain Coordinator and most recently in January 2023 I’m really pleased to have been promoted to Customer Services Manager.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

It’s very varied but it can include any or all of the following:

• Supporting Customer Service with any escalations for queries
• Supporting export with queries
• Training and support to new staff members
• Ensuring Cascade is up to date for my team, holidays approved, probation updated etc
• Approving invoices
• Working with planning to investigate any OTIFs or reasons for delays to customers
• Making sure my team are all able to complete the customer requests and supporting where necessary.
• Supporting logistics with my transition out of the role and into my new one.
• Communicating between departments

What do you love most about your role?

I love the opportunities to learn new things and develop my knowledge. I have been given the opportunity to complete an export course, which led to an amazing graduation ceremony in London, and a supply chain management course which I am still working through. I’ve also attended a conference for US trade in London.  

What Bowman Ingredients moment will you always remember?

Probably celebrating International Women’s Day for the first time this year. We are a very happy team and often enjoy a little spontaneous singing and joking which makes it a great and memorable place to work.
